Maccabi Loses Another Title
Safsal ,10/12/2008
The Yellows' losing streak extended to 7 in a row, after Galil/Gilboa knocked them out of "Winner Cup". Hapoel Jerusalem will face Bnei Hasharon in the semifinals, Gilboa will meet Ironi Nahariya.

Quarterfinals
Hapoel Galil/Gilboa 79 - Maccabi Tel Aviv 77
Maccabi's only win of the pre-season games was against Galil/Gilboa, 95:60, less than a month ago. Oded Kattache's club still lacks a foreign big man, but tonight they taught the Yellows a lesson in passion and determination.

Maccabi can say once and again that these losses mean nothing to them, but two technical fouls and huge frustration in the bench tell us otherwise. With a longer rotation, it's a 15-point game, not less.

Maccabi outrebounded the short Galil 46 to 23, but had only one scorer in double-figures, and again couldn't buy a three-pointer (4 of 19). Besides the final minutes, in which the hosts lost control, Maccabi's offense seemed stuck, and 1.5 weeks before the Euroleague, it looks like coach Effie still has a lot of work to do.

Brian Roberts scored 15 of his 24 in the first half, in which Galil led 43:31. The margin picked in the final period, 64:48, before Maccabi made a mini-comeback, which fell just short.

Guni Izraeli added 15 to the winners, Nixon 14, Yavzuri 8 and Randle 7 with 9 Rebs and 4 blocks. Carlos Arroyo had 15 in a losing cause, Hagag scored all of his 9 points in the last 10 minutes.
