Lovelace to Ashdod

Maccabi Ashdod signed a 3rd American for the upcoming season - Stacey Lovelace-Tolbert of the Minnesota Lynx who played in Ramla 3 years ago.

Ashdod completed its foreigners quota with the signing of Lovelace-Tolbert (30, 6'4). She will join Shaun Gortman, Brandi McCain and Alexsandra Music at Ashdod.

Lovelace-Tolbert played 18 games at Ramla in the 01/02 season, posting 19.3 pts and 9 rebounds per game. She also played in Turkey, Spain and France. Last season in France Lovelace-Tolbert averaged 13.7 pts (52% 2pt FGs, 41.7% 3pt FGs) and 8.5 boards per game in six Europe Cup games.

Lovelace-Tolbert is in her 2nd season with the Lynx, and so far the 2005 season has been the best of her career. Lovelace-Tolbert, who graduated from Purdue in 1996 and also played in the ABL, spent the 2000 & 2001 seasons with the Seattle Storm but didn't get much playing time. She was away from the game for almost two years while planning her wedding and giving birth to her daughter. Stacey's husband Brian played in Israel last season and is returning for another season.

Lovelace-Tolbert was back playing in France just 4 month after giving birth. In 2004, the Lynx invited her to training camp and she made the roster. While playing mostly the 4 spot, Lovelace-Tolbert averaged 3.6 points in 11.4 minutes per game. This season the Lynx are using Lovelace-Tolbert at the 3 and it has been working. Her size creates match-up problems for opponents and she's scoring 6.2 pts while hitting 44.7% from 3 (3rd best in the WNBA) in 17.4 minutes per game. "Stacey really is our X-factor," Lynx coach Suzie McConnell Serio said. "She's made great contributions off the bench. She's instant offense."
